PPLC convenes to dissect parties’ readiness to elections

The ORPP led a consultative forum of the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC), comprising the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), ORPP and Political Parties National Steering Committee(PPNSC), 7th to 10th June 2026.

The tripartite forum focused its deliberations on the electoral preparedness and evaluated various emerging issues and briefs, including legal ORPP-led reform ahead of the next General Election.

Registrar of Political Parties J.C. Lorionokou, at the forum, commended members of the political parties’ representatives for their active participation and reaffirmed the Office’s commitment to working closely with political parties as they prepare for the elections.

He urged political parties’ office bearers to uphold the rights and ensure inclusivity in governance and membership in accordance with statutory requirements, key in the ORPP efforts towards supporting institutionalizing parties.

He further highlighted ongoing reforms being undertaken by the Office, including upscaling its ICT capacity, automation of service processes and legal reforms.

The Assistant Registrar CPA Florence Birya briefed on the ORPP latest efforts, including a series of engagements with the Justice, Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) for both National Assembly and The Senate. She also highlighted the continuous capacity-building programmes progressively being carried to targeted party organs. “Political parties must continue strengthening compliance mechanisms to achieve proper governance and develop clear roadmaps towards the General Election,” she stated.

The Political Parties National Steering Committee Chairman, Evans Misati called upon political parties to intensify preparations in preparation for the General Election while collaboratively engaging with relevant stakeholders in the governance and electoral processes. He also called for the enhancement of political education and awareness programmes ahead of the general election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) Commissioner Mary Karen Sorobit encouraged political parties to continue utilizing the Political Parties Liaison Committee framework as a platform for safeguarding democratic processes. She also outlined key milestones and the current status of the Commission’s electoral preparedness initiatives.

The Director, Compliance, D.N. Kinuthia, lauded political parties for their efforts in enhancing compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. “We urge political parties to continue maintaining compliance, a key aspect for political parties’ readiness to the General Election,” he said.

Party representatives, in turn, appreciated the sustained efforts by ORPP in supporting the PPLC’s programmes, noting that the initiatives contribute significantly to credible elections, good governance and the protection of political rights.

The forum was supported by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy NIMD and coordinated by the ORPP Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Department.
