The need for issue-based politics and promoting accountable governance took centre stage during a roundtable on public debt and fiscal accountability held in Nairobi from 7–8 July 2026.
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) joined political parties, regulatory institutions and development partners at the International Republican Institute (IRI)-led forum to discuss public debt, taxation, service delivery, democratic oversight and citizen participation.
Representing the Registrar of Political Parties, Deputy Director, Finance and Political Parties Fund, CPA Sinteria Lemaiyan reaffirmed ORPP’s commitment to supporting political parties in promoting accountability, inclusion and issue-based politics. She encouraged parties to align their policies and preparations for the 2027 General Election with the priorities and aspirations of Kenyan citizens.
The forum provided an avenue for policymakers’ perspectives and political parties’ voice in drafting and shaping policies responsive to the citizens’ needs, including on public debt and the state of economy and governance, topical issues pervading people’s lives.
