Parties recognized for inclusion initiatives for PWDs

Various political parties were recognized at the Outstanding Political Parties Awards, in an occasion spearheaded Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) on 5th December, 2024.The awards were pegged on WFD’s inclusion theme, focusing on the political participation and leadership of young people, LGBT+ people, and persons with disabilities.

The Registrar, Ann Nderitu, CBS was among the distinguished guests and awarded the political parties representatives attending.

“Today, we celebrate the political parties that have made substantial progress in ensuring the participation of SIGs in their operations,” stated Ann Nderitu CBS, the Registrar of Political Parties.

The Registrar underscored significant initiatives implemented by the ORPP to promote inclusion, including enforcing gender compliance during the registration of political parties, distributing the Political Parties Fund to those supporting SIGs based on established criteria, providing capacity-building programs for political party officials regarding SIG inclusion, and creating training materials to enhance awareness and inclusivity, among other efforts.

Speakers at the event emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the rights of SIGs and their integration into political governance as a vital component of fostering effective governance. The political parties that were honoured, expressed their appreciation for the recognition and reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing the involvement of SIGs in their activities and processes.
