ORPP sustains parties’ capacity building on  dispute resolutions

The ORPP, in its endeavor to promote good governance by political parties, continued to sensitize political parties’ organs, including Internal Dispute Resolution Committees (IDRCs).

To that end, a two-day training 13th-14th March 2025 for IDRCs second batch of 23 fully registered political parties.

“The IDRMs have proved to be very helpful in promoting democratic including internal democracy with parties. The insights engagements such as this will also inform in making ORPP proposals for legal reform especially as we gear toward the coming General Elections. A number of gaps in IDRM management were identified in the last general polls. This training will also strengthen your capacity in mediation, negotiation and dispute resolution”, noted Assistant Registrar, Regulation and Compliance, Ali Abdullahi during the training.

“This training is part of ORPP’s continued efforts to strengthen political parties on various governance aspects. Functional dispute resolution mechanisms is key to good governance in political parties. I urge parties to review their constitutions outlining progressive provisions for managing disputes, ” said D. Kinuthia, the Director Compliance.

Areas of training included; overview of common disputes within political parties, impact of unresolved disputes on party unity and public perception, relevant legal framework governing dispute resolution in Kenya, establishment of lDRMs, functions & procedures, and alternative dispute resolution techniques, among others.

The training was organized by Compliance Department-Political Parties Capacity Building section. It was facilitated by various ORPP officers. The training programme has been structured in cohorts with previous cluster of parties trained on 9th-11th December 2024.
