The ORPP on March 5th 2026, on its gender inclusion agenda, joined multiple stakeholders in their collegiate call to accelerate gender equality in political leadership at Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), Two-Thirds Gender Principle Scorecard Conference in Nairobi. The Registrar, J.C. Lorionokou, graced the occasion themed “Rights. Justice. Action for All Women and Girls – Let Us Move from Rhetoric to Results.”
State and non- stakeholders, including state officials, policymakers, media practitioners, and civil society actors, reflected on key practical paths to actualize the 2/3 gender principle.
The Registrar further highlighted the ORPP’s contribution to promote gender parity, aligned with the Office mandate to collectively actualise key Score Card parameters ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The scorecard for 2027 must look fundamentally different from today’s. The inclusion is not aspirational but a constitutional imperative”, emphasized the Registrar.
AMWIK Executive Director, Queenter Mbori, noted the pivotal media role in the general election. She challenged journalists to avoid gender-blind reporting and embrace responsible, balanced coverage that amplifies women’s voices, their leadership experience notwithstanding. She further encouraged women’s strategic and ethical use of digital platforms to expand visibility and engagement.
“Visibility translates into power. Take charge of your narratives and position yourself at the center of political discourse”, urged AMWIK Chairperson, Robi Koki.
The forum, part of the International Women’s Day commemorations, had a common call: gender parity in politics requires deliberate action, institutional accountability, and responsible media engagement.
ORPP’s participation signified its commitment to tapping into other stakeholder efforts and synergizing to support the Office’s existing programming for expanded positive impact on inclusive governance.
