Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) is today meeting at the Kenya School of Government to review the implementation of its strategic plan. The group comprises of the steering committee, and chairs and secretaries of various sub committees.

The two day workshop will see the group re-examine its role in mitigating polarized electoral environment. This follows the November 2016 consultative meeting between Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and Political Parties.  The role of political parties in election cannot be ignored as Kenya prepares for the upcoming General Elections.

The Political Parties Act, 2011 Sec (38) establishes Political Parties Liaison Committee at the National and County Level. The principal function of the Political Parties Liaison Committee is to provide a platform for dialogue between the Registrar, Electoral Commission and political parties.

The PPLC has various sub committees formed under the National Political Parties Liaison Committees. They include:  Finance Committee, Legal and Dispute Resolution Committee Internal & External affairs committee, Civic, Political Education, & Publicity committee, Electoral Process Committee and the Audit& Compliance Committee.

Office of the Registrar has sustained the structured-dialogue between political parties and Electoral Commission on issues relating to the electoral process in Kenya through various workshops. The formation of PPLC is one of the recommendations made by the Report of the Independent Review Commission (Kriegler Commission) on the General Elections held in Kenya on 27 December 2007.
