On 26th May 2026, the ORPP Bungoma Regional Office conducted a youth sensitization forum at Keveye Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Vihiga County. The forum brought together young people drawn from various political parties and civil society organizations operating within the county. Political parties represented included UDA, KSC, ODM, PEP, PM, KUG, NEDP, the Labour Party, and UGM. Also present were representatives from the Deputy County Commissioner’s office and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission from Vihiga Constituency.
The forum provided an important platform for engaging the youth on governance, leadership, and political participation. Participants were further sensitized on the mandate and functions of the ORPP, enabling them to better understand the Office’s role in the regulation and oversight of political parties in Kenya. Discussions further enhanced participants’ understanding of the legal provisions that support youth inclusion in leadership and governance, while highlighting the importance of active youth participation in decision-making processes.
The youth were also apprised of the role of the national government in promoting peace and social cohesion, with emphasis placed on the contribution that young people can make towards sustaining peaceful communities and fostering national unity.
Deliberations also focused on political party structures and the various entry points through which young people can influence decision-making and leadership within political parties. Participants were accorded an opportunity to voice out the challenges and barriers that continue to hinder effective youth participation in leadership and governance and proposed practical recommendations aimed at enhancing youth inclusion and representation in political and governance spaces.
