On 16th October 2025, at ORPP HQ , Nairobi, the Registrar of Political Parties, John Cox Lorionokou, issued provisional registration certificates to five (5) political parties.
The parties were-The Economic Pillars Alliance (TEPA); The Economic Alliance Party(EPA); Kenya Liberation Movement (KELMO); Accountability and Transparency Party (APA) and Achievement Party of Kenya (ACPOK).
Presiding the session of issuance, the Registrar emphasized the importance of political parties upholding democratic values . “As founding members, ensure that your political parties stand the test of time by establishing governance and operational structures that are sustainable and adhere to the Code of Conduct for Political Parties as set out in the 1st Schedule to the Political Parties Act,” he said, reaffirming ORPP’s continuous guidance to political parties in their pursuit of next phase of registration-the full registration process.
The Assistant Registrar, CPA Florence Birya underscored the need for parties to adopt ORPP approved membership recruitment systems that comply with data protection requirements.
“Be thorough with your documentation as you embark on the process of full registration. The privileges you enjoy at the provisional registration stage are limited as given under Section 15 of the Political Parties Act. You have 270 days to meet full registration requirements,” Asst. Registrar stated while encouraging them to work towards being fully registered and compliant, a pre-requisite for their participation in the coming General Election.
The Assistant Registrar, CS Agatha Wahome encouraged the parties to craft distinct ideologies that reflect their identity and values.
“The provisional certification is your opportunity to play a role in advancing the political system in Kenya”, advised D.N Kinuthia, the Director Compliance.The Deputy Director Registration Department, Locha Erukudi, guided the parties on the next steps
“You must immediately begin working on establishing governance structures, recruiting members, and setting up party offices in more than half of the counties —key legal requirements for full registration, which must be fulfilled within 270 days from today,” he advised.
The party officials expressed their appreciation to ORPP for the guidance and committed to complying with all legal requirements and timelines while seeking necessary guidance from ORPP through the process.
