Adapting a positive mind shift, self-awareness said key to Women’s progress as Registrar leads ORPP commemorations International Women Day in expo, health check, career talk and intellect discussions

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) joined the world in commemorating International Women’s Day with a series of engaging activities aimed at empowering women holistically. The event, held at ORPP Headquarters, underscored the importance of self-awareness, mindset shifts, and support systems in advancing women’s progress in personal and professional spheres.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ann Nderitu, CBS, emphasized the need for a balanced approach to work, personal growth, and societal contribution.

“A holistically stable woman is the foundation of the family, workplace, and society at large. At ORPP Kenya, we are committed to supporting both women and men staff to achieve that balance and serve with honor and excellence.”

She further encouraged the women staff to be intentional in developing a positive mindset, practicing self-care, and surrounding themselves with the right support systems.

“You must have irreducible personal values to guide yourself through personal reflection as a woman,” she added.

Practical and Sustainable Approaches to Women’s Issues

Assistant Registrar of Political Parties, CPA Florence Birya, emphasized that discussions on women’s empowerment must move beyond rhetoric to practical, sustainable, and value-driven solutions.

“The discussions around International Women’s Day must be practical, value-added, and aligned to the realities women face in different contexts,” she stated.

Her sentiments were echoed by Assistant Registrar Ali Abdullahi, who called for greater collective responsibility in advancing gender equality.

“Gender equality is not a women’s affair but a human affair. We should all support women to accelerate action in areas such as political inclusion, leadership, and economic opportunities—areas where women in Kenya still lag behind,”  he noted.

He further commended ORPP Kenya for achieving 50/50 gender parity in staffing, highlighting it as a significant step in the right direction.

A Multi-Faceted Celebration of Women’s Strength

The ORPP commemorations were spearheaded by Human Resource Management and the Resource Centre, with support from various departments. Activities included:

  • Exhibitions showcasing women’s contributions in different fields
  • Health check-ups to promote wellness among staff
  • Career talks focusing on self-development and leadership
  • Intellectual discussions on gender equality and inclusivity

The event reinforced the importance of self-awareness, personal development, and institutional support in accelerating women’s progress. As ORPP  continues to champion gender balance, it remains committed to fostering an inclusive and empowering work environment for all.
