On June 15th 2026, ORPP was before the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) to submit legislative proposals on Amendments to the Political Parties Act, CAP. 7D .
The submissions of the Political Parties (Amendment ) Bill,2026, were preceded by ORPP-run series of stakeholder engagements culminating in the Bill that encompasses stakeholder input and jointly drafted a multi-agency Technical team composed of various actors.
The amendments relate to key issues such as management of coalitions and coalition political parties; party nominations, mergers, voluntary dissolution of parties; modes of resignation; dispute resolution by PPDT Kenya, parameters for review of party constitutions, election and nomination rules, among other areas. The legal review is informed by lessons learnt from the 2022 general election, case law, and best practices.

We shall continue interrogating key issues as per JLAC input to address gaps in the regulation of political parties “, said Registrar J.C. Lorionokou, leading the ORPP team in the meeting coordinated by the Legal and Advisory department.
