The United National Congress (UNC) and the National Restoration Movement (NRM) were the latest two political parties awarded certificates of provisional registration by Registrar, J.C. Lorionokou ORPP, HQ. The current standing of provisionally registered parties is 33 as at 5th February 2026. Political parties stand central to this expectation,” said the Registrar, urging compliance of the founders with the legal timelines and requirements for full registration ahead of the 2027 General Election. Emphasizing living by the ideological foundation, Assistant Registrar CPA Florence Birya noted, “a political party must be distinct. As founders you must find a way of distinguishing yourselves including bringing forth transformative leaders from your parties” The ORPP officers, drawn from various departments guided the parties on membership recruitment, ICT infrastructure, records and data management, establishment of functional offices, governance structures and member participation, among other legal and operational obligations required for transition to full registration within the statutory timeline of 270 days from the date of certification. The founders of the two parties praised ORPP officers for their professionalism and prompt guidance throughout the rigorous registration process. The total number of provisionally registered political parties as of February was 33, while fully registered parties were at 91.
