Registrar of Political Parties joins Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and other stakeholders in commemorating the International Day for Universal Access to Information

The Registrar of Political Parties address participants when he joined the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and other stakeholders in commemorating the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI).

Speaking during the commemoration, the Registrar, J.C Lorionokou called for a review of the entire architecture of information exchange between duty bearers and citizens, particularly through journalistic and other public information channels.

“We must unpack malinformation, unearth deepfakes and continuously clarify information. We are the sound and noise proofs,” the Registrar passionately urged, as he outlined the ORPP proactive information and public engagement avenues.
The Registrar emphasized that institutions have a responsibility to provide accurate, timely and accessible information through appropriate channels and in formats that citizens can understand and use.
“Information, and not just information, but accurate information, availed at the right time through the right avenues, must be a constant deliverable by all institutions and persons charged with the mandate to educate and sensitise all Kenyans,” he said.
He further called on government institutions to strengthen information management systems, proactively disclose information of public value and help filter misleading content, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
The discussions highlighted the importance of preserving information integrity and ensuring that citizens have access to credible information that enables meaningful participation in democratic processes, at a time when the speed at which information circulates can outpace verification.
Participants reflected on practical challenges in accessing official information, reaching diverse audiences across platforms and communities, and verifying content in an increasingly complex information environment. The engagement comprised media organisations, civil society, academia and other actors in the information ecosystem that were said should collaborate to ensure credible, accurate, and useful information reaches citizens.
