Historic moment as Registrar at go issues six political parties with provisional registration certificates 

The Office , on 14th June, 2025 registered a milestone in the political party registration process with the issuance of provisional registration certificates to six (6) newly formed political parties. The event, held at ORPP headquarters in Nairobi, was presided over by Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, CBS, and attended by founding members of the respective parties and ORPP officials.

The political parties awarded provisional registration certificates included: Imarisha Uchumi Party (IUP); People’s Forum for Rebuilding Democracy (PFRD); Alliance for Democratic Association (ADA); The Inclusive Party (TIP TIP); United Patriotic Movement (UPM); National Transformation Party (NTP).

In her remarks, Registrar, Ann Nderitu, CBS, congratulated the party founders for reaching this important stage and reminded them that provisional registration is a crucial yet preliminary phase in the full registration process. “You must have ORPP, approved recruitment systems that are compliant with data protection laws. Be thorough with your documentation and organizational structures as you embark on the journey toward full registration,” she advised.

The Registrar also urged the party leaders to foster cohesion, integrity, and inclusivity in their internal governance systems. “Accommodate diverse opinions within your leadership and avoid internal conflicts that may derail your efforts. Remain vigilant and watchful of fraudsters who may attempt to exploit your journey.

Assistant Registrar, CPA Florence Birya , emphasized that registration is not just a formality, but a commitment to uphold the values of democratic governance. “Being registered today is your opportunity to contribute to progress in the political system in Kenya. Stay true to your founding ideologies and adhere to the Political Parties’ Code of Conduct during the next phase,” she advised.

Speaking on the legal requirements post-provisional registration, Locha Erukudi, Deputy Director, Registration department guided the parties. He stated “From the date of issuance, you have 270 days to meet the legal requirements for full registration. This includes establishing inclusive internal governance structures, conducting legitimate membership recruitment, and opening party offices as required by law,” he noted.

A provisionally registered political party enjoys the rights to (check Section 15 of PPA)

The party officials were assured of ORPP’s continued support towards registration process and eventual compliance.
