Stakeholders convene to lay strategies to nurture youth in political and electoral matters

The ORPP took part in a political actors roundtable multi-stakeholder Dialogue Forum in Nairobi by NIMD to collectively lay youth-inspired strategies for social justice and better governance in political and electoral processes.

In a panel session during the forum, the Registrar of Political Parties, J.C. Lorionokou, commended the rising number of youth engaging in political activities. “‎As youth, you need to take up leadership positions and key responsibilities in political parties as a ground for gaining knowledge and understanding of political processes as provided in the Constitution and the laws we have,” counselled the Registrar.

He also urged the youth to be inclusive within themselves so as not to leave any youth behind as well as the need to sustain their change agitation drives.

The Registrar further outlined the ORPP initiatives in promoting inclusivity and diversity through sensitization programmes aimed at empowering all the marginalized including targeted capacity building and engagements with the youth.

Other panellists included Chief Justice Emiritus Willy Mutunga and Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, who led Muungano Party, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC).

The panel further solidified the need for collective design of responsive support systems for the specialised groups, such as mentorship and legal & policy advocacy, to anchor more of the youth voices, being the future of the country.
