We hold the view and appreciate the current trend of women including youth emerging as leaders in our democratic space. This amplifies the voices of the entire SIG demographic. This forum is among other ORPP’s efforts to ensure that women have an equal chance to contribute and offer solutions of national importance
Registrar, Ann Nderitu
In support of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in political parties, ORPP convened a dialogue forum for women in parties to interrogate legal reform and 2/3 gender principle actualization on 27th November in Nairobi. The forum was supported by Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and its associated partners.
Participants received, discussed, and made proposals/ recommendations on the ongoing ORPP-led amendment proposals to the Political Parties Act,2011. Views to the Multi-sectoral Working Group on 2/3 gender, to which Registrar is a member were also made.
The ORPP is always involved in mitigating barriers so that women are more involved in political parties including in their management and contesting for political seats.
Assistant Registrar CPA, Florence Birya.
The ORPP will hold subsequent fora for other SIGs to discuss/input on similar pertinent issues central to their optimal participation in electoral processes. Similar forums for the youth and persons with special needs will be held in December.
