On 17th June 2026, the ORPP, with the support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Kenya (KAS), held discussions with a section of students at Egerton University under the ORPP students-engagement programme- “Kikao na Comrades” initiative — one of the institution’s most direct engagements with young Kenyans of the month.
The forum explored topics on political party governance and electoral regulation in a room full of students who will be among the voters, and potentially the party members and leaders, of the 2027 cycle.
Students explored the history, role, structure, and functions of political parties in Kenya, and were challenged to reflect critically on the role young people must play in shaping the country’s democratic and electoral future a conversation that drew energetic participation from those present.
Discussions went beyond the informational to the participatory, with students engaging on what it means to be a citizen in a democratic country and how political parties serve as the central vehicle through which that citizenship is expressed.
“Your voice today shapes the leadership of tomorrow. We encourage you to actively participate in governance and political processes — the country needs young people who are informed, engaged and ready to lead,” said Ms. Beatrice Nderi, Head of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization at ORPP.
