ORPP with a section of stakeholders in electoral reforms held a consultative meeting on 16th to 17th September 2024 to deliberate on a roadmap toward the finalization of electoral reforms. The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) gave technical guidance on the review/amendments in view of lessons learn in last and ahead of the General Election. Participants were drawn from among others Civil Society Organizations, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC), Faith Based Organizations and State Law Office.
During the forum, Assistant Registrar, Ali Abdullahi emphasized the importance of improving democratic systems through the implementation of proposed legal reforms, urging for their timely enactment. Speakers observed the essential finalization of necessary electoral legislations with reference to processes such as NADCO and other experiences gained in past electoral cycles including timelines.
The forum was a joint effort of ELGIA and ORPP to seeks effect resolutions from various past multisectoral forums on the legal review agenda.
