Earlier today, @ORPPKenya HQ, the Registrar, Sophia Sitati, formally issued certificates of provisional registration to two parties, Vision for Development Alliance (VIDA) and Hekima Alliance Party (HAPA), at ORPPKenya headquarters, Nairobi. The certification brings the total number of provisionally registered parties to 17 by July 2025.
The @ORPPKenya guided the party founding members present on the requirements for full registration, including recruitment of recruited members in compliance with the Political Parties Act and Data Protection Act, establishing offices and inclusive governance organs in line with their Constitution and ideologies.
“A provisionally registered political party shall not be entitled to participate in an election, including the twenty-two (22) by-elections expected in the country soon. Further, the law requires you as VIDA and HAPA NOT to propose or campaign for any candidate in any election. However, at this stage of registration, you have the right to publicise your Party to recruit members, access state security for peaceful and orderly meetings, as well as state-owned facilities”, guided the Registrar.
“As you recruit members in line with guidelines given, build your membership encompassing all demographics, including the Special Interest Groups, particularly the youth. Establish party offices in locations and premises accessible to all, including PWDs”, guided Assistant Registrar, Registration and Field Services Coordination, CPA Florence Birya.
‘You have 270 days from the date of the certificate to meet statutory conditions for full registration. Work towards this end, bearing in mind the electoral timelines for the forthcoming general election”, noted Head of Registration department, Locha Erukudi, as @ORPPKenya officials present guided on compliance, ICT, records management processes, among other specific requirements for parties’ full registration.
Founding members for the two parties appreciated the guidance received from @ORPPKenya through the rigorous initial registration stage. “ We have been through this journey for over a year. The @ORPPKenya has been very helpful and objective through the process. We are ready for the next challenge, as the law requires, as we aspire to meet our ideological pursuits”, the officials appreciated.
