STAKEHOLDER ANNOUNCEMENT

14 October 2025

SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF THE REGISTRAR OF POLITICAL PARTIES AND ASSISTANT REGISTRAR

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) is pleased to announce to our esteemed stakeholders the appointment of Mr. John Cox Lorionokou and Ms. Agatha W. Wahome as the Registrar of Political Parties and Assistant Registrar of Political Parties, respectively. The two will serve for a fixed term of six (6) years. The appointments, effective from the date of Gazettement, were made by the President, H.E. William Ruto, via The Kenya Gazette, Vol. CXXVII, No. 14267, 3rd October 2025.

The Registrar, Mr. Lorionokou, and Assistant Registrar Ms. Wahome subscribed to the solemn oath/oath of Office on 13th October 2025 at the Supreme Court of Kenya, superintended by the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Hon. Lady Justice Martha K. Koome.

The Registrar takes over the ORPP top leadership from Ms. Sofia Sitati, who served as the Ag. Registrar of Political Parties from the 14th July 2025. The official handover was held at ORPP headquarters offices in Nairobi on 13th October, where the Registrar was briefed by her predecessor and had an introductory engagement with ORPP management and staff.

The Registrar brings a wealth of experience and expertise in governance and electoral management, having served at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as a County Elections Manager, among other roles. His counterpart, similarly, served at IEBC as Director of Audit Services. During her tenure, Ms. Sitati built on ORPP’s institutional policy development, initiated legal reforms, engaged with political party officials, rolled out a customized financial reporting template, and implemented CSR initiatives, among other initiatives. The two state officers join their counterparts, the serving Assistant Registrars Ali Abdullahi and CPA Florence Birya, who have served since 2021. They are complemented by a pool of skilled and experienced ORPP staff serving in varied dockets.

Some of the tasks in the leadership’s in-tray include leading the ORPP in performing its role in the 27th November slated By-elections and implementation of the ORPP Election Plan. They will also carry on with ORPP strategic priorities relating to Registration of Political Parties; Regulation of Political Parties, Participation of Political Parties in Elections; Digital Transformation and Data Management; Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement; and Institutional Governance and Capacity as per the ORPP 2025-2028, which has been aligned to the electoral cycle.
