ORPP unveils its 12th office field office in Machakos

It was deep engagements with stakeholders, on 29th January 2026, where ORPP convened stakeholders drawn from state and non-state agencies, the clergy, citizens, and the media, joined ORPP in the official launch of the Lower Eastern Regional Office in Machakos. The forum provided an opportunity for ORPP leadership to engage with national and county government entities, interact with stakeholders, and receive feedback on various issues relating to the Office’s regulatory mandate. While welcoming guests, ORPP Coordinator Ms. Hope Nandwa reaffirmed the Regional Office’s commitment to serving all stakeholders with excellence.

“The impact of the Machakos office will not only be measured by its physical presence, but by the quality of partnerships and the delivery of impactful programmes for the people of this region and beyond,” she noted.

Assistant Registrar CPA Florence Birya highlighted ORPP’s progressive growth and people-centred approach in decentralising services, noting that the Machakos office marks the establishment of ORPP’s 12th field office nationally. Her counterpart, Assistant Registrar CS Agatha Wahome, emphasized that the Machakos Regional Office is more than a physical. The Speaker, Machakos County Assembly Hon. Anne Kiusya, also present, assured the Assembly’s support through joint engagements and existing county forums to enhance awareness and outreach.

In his keynote address, the Registrar, Mr. J.C. Lorionokou, outlined key milestones achieved by ORPPKenya and appreciated the strong stakeholder engagement in the region. “I urge registered political parties not only to comply with the law, but to be self-driven in governing themselves in line with constitutional values and the aspirations of their members,” he stated. The Registrar further encouraged citizens to join political parties to fully enjoy their democratic rights, noting that political parties must continuously educate citizens on their role in democracy and development. He added that proposed political parties should clearly define their purpose and ideology prior to registration.

Emphasizing the role of political parties in promoting peace, the Registrar called for sustained national dialogue among political leaders to commit to peace and adherence to political party and electoral codes of conduct. He also outlined ongoing reforms and initiatives by ORPP, including legal reforms, review of membership recruitment processes through consent-based approaches, enhancement of e-services, and capacity building of party organs and officials—particularly Dispute Resolution Committees. The Registrar further assures ORPP’s commitment to openness, accountability, and continuous improvement, assuring stakeholders that feedback received during the forum and other engagements will inform ongoing statutory and policy reforms guiding the management of political parties.
