ORPP showcases at People’s Dialogue Fair as it spearheads conversations at event’s political parties dialogue segment

ORPP took center stage at the People’s Dialogue Festival (PDF2025) at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, from 5th to 8th March 2025, leading critical discussions on political party regulation, electoral reforms, and inclusive democracy.

As part of the Political Dialogue Village, the Registrar of Political Parties officially inaugurated the platform, reinforcing the crucial role of inter-party dialogue in strengthening democracy. She reaffirmed ORPP’s commitment to promoting the inclusion of Special Interest Groups in the political landscape and urged political parties to increase membership and uphold members’ political rights.

Speaking during the Political Parties Dialogue segment, Registrar Ann Nderitu, CBS, emphasized the urgent need for legal reforms to address gaps in electoral laws. She called for stronger legislation on Coalition Political Parties and enhanced regulations to uphold the right of association.

“While we appreciate the Constitution for promoting the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), we need further legal reforms to enhance their participation at the county level,” she stated, advocating for better regulation of party lists.

She further underscored the importance of accurate demographics on Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to ensure inclusivity, transparency, and public trust in the electoral process.

Other panelists echoed the need to implement the two-thirds gender rule and additional electoral reforms to foster greater political participation.
