ORPP issues full and provisional registration certificates to five political parties

The awards makes full registration of political parties at 93, while provisional registration at 33 by April 2026.

On 22nd April, 2026, ORPP HQ in Nairobi, the Registrar of Political Parties, J.C Lorionokou, officially issued a certificate of full registration to the People’s Renaissance Movement (PM), alongside provisional registration certificates to four political parties: National Forum for Equity and Development (NFD), Convention of Democracy in Kenya (COD-K), People’s Centered Party (PEC), and Peoples Reformation Movement (PRM).

The Registrar emphasised the central role of political parties in strengthening democracy, urging founders to build sustainable governance and operational structures in line with the Code of Conduct for Political Parties as outlined in the Political Parties Act.

“As founding members, ensure that your political parties stand the test of time by establishing governance and operational structures that are sustainable and adhere to the established legal framework. We cannot have a stable democracy without strong political parties”, noted the Registrar.

The Assistant Registrar, CPA Florence Birya , during the award to provisional registration, urged to party founders that “ You must ensure inclusion of the youth, who will bring unique ideas and diversity into your parties. Be thorough with your documentation and work to meet the 270 days timeline and requirements from provisional to full registration,” CPA Birya counselled, encouraging the parties to endeavour to attain full registration if they were to participate in the coming general election.

Deputy Director Registration, Locha Erukudi, commended the PM for attaining full registration.He also provided a step-by-step procedure to the officials of the parties being awarded provisional registration.

“You must immediately begin working on establishing governance structures, recruiting members and setting up party offices in more than half of the counties, key legal requirements for full registration, which must be fulfilled within 270 days from now,” Locha guided as ORPP officials from the ICT, Records, Field Services and Compliance departments on other key processes and regulatory requirements.

Party officials expressed their appreciation to ORPP for its continued guidance and support, reaffirming their commitment to comply with all legal requirements and timelines as they progress toward full registration.
