Celebrating a Trailblazer : Registrar Ann Nderitu on the verge being electoral Commissioner

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) joins the electoral and governance stakeholders in celebrating Registrar’s, Ann Nderitu, CBS milestone on her appointment as a Commissioner to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Ms Nderitu milestone follows a rigorous recruitment process  through a selection panel, followed by public interviews, vetting National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs (JLAC), and subsequent approval by the National Assembly (Plenary). The penultimate step, was her formal appointment by the President through a Special Gazette notice– CXXVII-No. 122 of 10th June, 2025. She is now awaits a legal process of swearing in after a matter in court is determined.

The Registrar, a trailblazer in electoral governance and institutional reform and a multiple awardee,  has served the ORPP with distinction, steering the Office through transformative milestones. Her efforts had imprint in strengthening multi-party democracy, deepening institutional accountability, and championing inclusion, particularly for women, youth, and marginalized groups, has earned her national and international recognition.

During her tenure, the Office evolved into a trusted institution, known for its impartiality, transparency and bold advocacy for political party discipline and compliance.

Notable accolades while at ORPP helm includes ;successful digitization of party membership records, streamlining of political party registration processes; human capacity development; legal reforms and spearheading drafting of ORPP’s and political parties bound policies, manuals and publications to offer ORPP and party a reference for virtually all their processes.

She is to join a pack of other leaders in the IEBC which are—Mr. Erastus Edung Ethekon (Chairperson), Mr. Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Ms. Mary Karen Sorobit, Mr. Hassan Noor Hassan, Prof. Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Ms. Fahima Araphat Abdallahi.

Key task ahead of IEBC Commission as conversed in various for a include spearheading  delimitation of electoral boundaries, management of pending by-elections, and preparation for the 2027 General Election ahead, the new team bears the weight of national expectation.
