T<\/strong>he Registrar of Political Parties led a section of ORPP to Bunge Towers on 17th April, 2025, to submit ORPP written memorandum before the Justice Affairs and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly on the Political Parties (Amendment), Bill, 2024, now at public participation stage.<\/p>\n

A spot light to the ORPP’s written memorandum to the Bill submitted included; need to entrench in the constitution In- dependent Political Parties Regulatory Commission (IPPRC, presently, ORPP), allocate adequate resources for setting up of proposed IPPRC, need to clearly outline regulatory powers and appeal mechanisms out of IPPRC’s decisions.\"\"Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu (middle), Assistant Regis-trars, Ali Adullahi and CPA Florence Birya and a section of ORPP staff appear before the JLAC\u00a0 on 17th April, 2025 at Bunge Towers, Nairobi<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Also in the representations were concerns about lack of clearly defined transitional causes of the Registrar and Assistant Registrars, misalignment of some Bill proposals to the Constitutional Amendments, lack of various governance and operational provisions in running the Commission including audits, meeting, appointments as well as delineation the proposed Commission’s role from the roles of Commission Secretary as Accounting Officer.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Also present were Assistant Registrars, Ali Abdullahi, CPA Florence Birya who submitted the ORPP input to the Elections (Amendment)Bill,2024 and the Elections Offence (Amendment) Bill, 2024. “We appreciate the milestones made by ORPP in progressing effective regulations of political parties and promoting good governance. We shall consider invaluable proposals you have put forth ahead the Bill’s further processing by the Committee and the House”, assured JLAC members pre- sent led by Hon. John Makali, chairing the session.<\/p>\n
