The ORPP, in collaboration with a cluster of representatives from both funded and non-funded political parties, as well as relevant government agencies, is in the process of developing a financial reporting template for political parties. This initiative is being undertaken through a Joint Committee comprising the ORPP, political parties, the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice, and the National Treasury and Economic Planning. As part of this endeavour, the ORPP has facilitated a series of consultative meetings. One such engagement was held on 13th March 2025 with officials from funded political parties to gather their views on the proposed template.<\/p>\n

The development is aligned to ORPP\u2019s facilitative regulatory approach that will help parties utilise such a reporting framework to improve parties’ financial reporting. Its development is informed by parties’ feedback on financial reporting, lessons from the Office of the Auditor-General, and Kenya’s previous parties’ financial and ORPP commitment to support political parties’ prudent financial management.<\/p>\n

The Assistant Registrar, Regulation and Compliance, Ali Abdullahi, while in the engagement with funded political parties, commended the Committee for the progress it had made in its drafting and the involvement of stakeholders relevant to the process. “I reiterate the need for parties’ transparency and accountability in managing all its funds, including monies allocated through the Political Parties Fund (PPF). There must also be accurate and timely reporting as provided for in law”, Ali said. Further, he acknowledged improvements made by parties in their last year’s financial reporting as per the OoG’s audit findings.<\/p>\n

He cited the improvements realized were attributable to ORPP interventions such as continued capacity-building and practical guidelines provided to parties in their reporting as contained in ORPP-developed Political Parties Accounts, Finance Procurement Policy and Procedure Manual.<\/p>\n

The AoG\u2019s Director of Audit, Philip Cheboiwo , thanked the political parties’ officials present for their efforts in complying with the various aspects of financial management. Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, CPA Stanley Igati led participants through the template that has been aligned to financial reporting standards.<\/p>\n

The meeting comes after the non-funded political parties give views on the template\u00a0 in similar engagement held on 26th February, 2025. The views will in the course of the process, be consolidated and later presented to parties for validation. The exercise is being convened by the ORPP\u2019s Finance department with support of Audit department and other departments.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
