{"id":5286,"date":"2016-09-27T00:31:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-27T00:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orpp.or.ke\/?p=5286"},"modified":"2023-11-02T08:42:24","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T08:42:24","slug":"orpp-gives-notice-to-parties-on-compliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orpp.or.ke\/fr\/orpp-gives-notice-to-parties-on-compliance\/","title":{"rendered":"ORPP gives Notice to Parties on Compliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ngala Joshua<\/strong><br \/><strong>Nairobi Kenya, Wednesday September 28, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Registrar of Political Parties has issued a notice to all political parties to amend their party constitutions and rules for compliance to the Political Parties Act.<\/p>\n<p>The requirement is in line with provisions of the new <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"\/fr\/images\/UPLOADSpdf\/PoliticalParties_Amendment__No.2_Act_No21of2016.pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\" title=\"Political Parties Act (Amendment) (No.2) of 2016.\">Political Parties Act (Amendment) (No.2) of 2016.<\/a><\/span> This law provides a roadmap for effective formation and management of political parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the provisionally and fully registered political parties shall amend their party constitutions and rules within three (3) months of issuance of this notice,\u201d said Lucy Ndungu.<\/p>\n<p>It therefore means that each political party must adhere to the two-third gender rule in its all structures such as organs, bodies and committees. The law provides that fully registered parties are required to forward their updated list of governing officials and persons authorized to sign on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>The Act envisages realization of gender equality in the formation, participation and management of political parties. Non compliance to the new law leads to deregistration. It consequently gives the Registrar powers to de-register a party if it contravenes the two-third gender requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Parties also need to present to the Registrar, data disaggregated based on \u2018special interest groups\u2019 as women, youth, and people with disabilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The law requires that a party membership must include people with special groups. The representation and participation of special interest groups is important in decision making organs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Political parties are equally required to incorporate in their rules, procedures on mergers and coalitions.
