The\u00a0<\/span>ORPP<\/span>, 3rd cohort of training of political parties’ Internal Dispute Resolution Committees (IDRCs) was held from 28th and 29th October where over 20 political parties were trained. The trained brought the number of parties trained on Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanisms (IDRMs) to over sixty (60) in 3 cohorts between 2024 and 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Registrar of Political Parties, J.C Lorionokou while speaking during the training, lauded the representatives of the parties present for their active participation, reaffirming ORPP\u2019s dedication to enhancing parties’ institutional capacity for effective and impartial resolution of intra-party disputes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe aim to strengthen parties\u2019 ability to independently and fairly resolve internal disputes to foster trust among stakeholders including their members and the general citizens”, the Registrar said as he encouraged Committee members cascade the knowledge gained to other party officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assistant Registrar, Regulation and Compliance, Ali Abdullahi, emphasized that functional IDRCs are essential in promoting internal democracy and building effective mediation, negotiation and dispute resolution framework within political parties.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis training strengthens parties\u2019 capacity to manage disputes through parties’ internal mechanisms and the appellant avenues such as the PPDT or the courts,\u201d Ali said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assistant Registrar in charge of Finance, PPF and Strategy, CS Agatha Wahome, urged political parties to ensure internal disputes are resolved amicably to maintain harmony among members and uphold good governance and democracy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Director Compliance, D. N. Kinuthia, highlighted the importance of institutionalizing robust dispute resolution systems and encouraged parties to continually review their constitutions to include progressive provisions to effectively manage disputes if they arise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The training, organized by Deputy Director, Political Parties Capacity Building department, Anastacia Kaberere, covered key areas including common disputes within political parties; The impact of unresolved disputes on party unity and public perception; Legal framework governing.<\/span><\/p>\n
