The ORPP convened a Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) a two-day consultative meeting, 4th to 7th June 2025, bringing together representatives from political parties, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The tripartite platform served as a crucial space for deliberations on matters integral to democratic governance and electoral integrity.<\/p>\n

Deliberations delved into review of a customized\u00a0 Political Parties Financial Reporting Template recently spearheaded by ORPP. Also in discussions was the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, a review of PPLC\u2019s current financial status for the financial year, PPLC legal reform report, implementation of PPLC activities and legal reform proposals aimed at improving PPLC operations and larger electoral framework.<\/p>\n

Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, CBS, commended the spirit of openness and continued dialogue among the stakeholders. \u201cSuch engagements are crucial in promoting peace, building trust, and strengthening confidence in the electoral processes while embracing political tolerance, elements central to the growth of democracy,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the Committee’s legal reform agenda, Assistant Registrar for Regulation and Compliance, Ali Abdullahi, emphasized the instrumental role of PPLC in identifying legal gaps and enhancing inclusivity, transparency, and advocacy in the political landscape.<\/p>\n

Assistant Registrar, Registration and Field Services Coordination, CPA Florence Birya underscored the need for consistent collaboration among the three arms of the PPLC\u2014ORPP, IEBC, and political parties, to foster improved governance and the sustainability of political parties through regular, structured dialogue.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of the Parties\u2019 National Steering Committee, Evans Misati expressed appreciation for the forum, calling for enhanced financial support for political parties. He emphasized the importance of incorporating such funding mechanisms in the proposed amendments to the Political Parties Act to reflect evolving democratic ideals.<\/p>\n
